Noonday Demon is inspired by artists of the Romantic Era and the conflict between reality and the romantic ideal. Melancholy has expressed itself most completely, provided sanctuary, enlightenment or at least occupation for its sufferers and benefits for succeeding generations— in the arts.
"The portrait of a singular vastness, depth and dynamism of existence, the pure expression of an internal vigor in its relation to the world."
The importance of melancholy as an aesthetic emotion is not only an inevitable part of life, but an essential one. If you’ve never felt melancholy you’ve missed out on part of what it means to be human. It is a practice that produces its own kind of knowledge and under the proper nurturing circumstances, bounds into imaginative expression, despite the agony it wreaks on its creators. Honoring melancholy means attending to its uncomfortable truth of the struggle which gives rise to a 'spiritual creative sorrow.'
